Emergency assessment and treatment planning for dental trauma

Presentation Description

Patients with traumatic dental injuries a can present unannounced and requiring immediate treatment. Emergency treatment carried out at the time of the can have a profound effect on long term success. This presentation will firstly address the assessment of a patient who presents with a traumatic dental injury and then consider the emergency treatment procedures that should be carried out for such a patient. Reference will be made to changes that have been adopted by the International Association of Dental Traumatology in their 2020 dental trauma guidelines. The need to develop a comprehensive dental trauma treatment plan will also be addressed.

At the end of this presentation, participants will better understand:
1. How to assess a patient presenting with a traumatic dental injury. 
2. The emergency management of a patient presenting with a traumatic dental injury.
3. How to explain short- and long-term treatment requirements to a patient or their guardian.
