Dr Louisa Nokukhanya ‘Khanyi’ Makwakwa a Specialist in Community Dentistry, Clinical Manager and Chair of the Dental Committee of the Medical and Dental Board of the Health Professions Council of Southern Africa (HPCSA) started her Oral Health career as a Dental Therapist and went on to complete a Bachelor of Dental surgery, an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Dentistry and a Master’s in Public Health. Her work experience which spans over 20 years, includes working in the public, private and mining sectors. Working in these diverse sectors gave her insight into the challenges faced by dentists daily whilst attempting to deliver quality Oral Healthcare to their patients. Her passion and drive to be part of the solution to these challenges faced by dentists prompted her to be active in all spheres of the professions, as she firmly believes in the principles that ‘we need to be the change that we see’.
